Magnesium and Sulphate are the two major components of Epsom Salts – a lack of magnesium can contribute to high blood pressure, hyperactivity, heart problems and other health issues. Sulphate is essential for many biological processes, helping form proteins in joints and brain tissue so I thought I was onto a fantastic thing when I found a packet in my supermarket for about NZD 3.00. I didn’t however, realise at the time that not all Epsom Salts are created equal. Cheaper grades unfortunately can be laced with heavy metals, if there are excessive heavy metals then we are at risk of contaminating ourselves by re-absorbing these metals back into our bodies. There are many great blogs out there extolling the virtues of Magnesium both internally and externally.
Magnesium is one mineral that can be absorbed through the skin so if you have a Mg Deficiency or any of the issues stated below then bathing in Epsom Salts may help as it has been scientifically proven to –
- Assist in flushing toxins from the body
- Regulate activity of 325 + enzymes
- Make insulin more effective
- Help joint proteins and bone tissue
- Improve Oxygen use
- Help muscles and nerves function properly
- Improve sleep and concentration by aiding the Central Nervous System
- Help prevent artery hardening and blood clots
- Reduce inflammation to relieve pain & muscle cramps
- Improve absorption of nutrients
- Help relieve or ease migraine headaches
- Ease stress
Wow I didn’t know it absorbs through skin too! I think magnesium is essential for health, unfortunately, being vegetarian it isn’t always easy for me to find the right supplements. Thanks for posting this!
