Renew the MIND

It’s so easy to check out mentally when we have so much going on in our lives.

Auto-pilot seems to get us through the days, when we just have to just keep going, one foot in front of the other.  A few years ago it seemed I was living this way, just going through the motions with absolutely no mental or physical joy to stimulate me.  I was feeling bored and under utilised at work and lost all pleasure in even reading my beloved books and found even my conversations with people became the same.

I had become majorly stagnant and even I was bored with my own company. My life didn’t need a few tweaks here and there, I needed a major overhaul and I needed to stimulate my mind in order to find joy and pleasure in the small things again. I have found that unless you’re constantly renewing the mind you become stagnate. Stagnation, it means to decay or lie idle. What a horrible word and stagnant is not a way I choose to live my life anymore.

To help Renew the MIND

Travel: No it doesn’t have to be an expensive international excursion just somewhere close you haven’t been before. I had the world figured out from a very young age (so I thought), I grew up moving quite a bit so I became very adept at putting people into neat little groups very quickly upon meeting them. It gave me a form of control at constantly being ‘the new girl’, but it became a pattern I had to break later in life as I started to travel more and moved away from my usual support networks. When you’re alone, and out of your comfort zone it’s amazing how brave you become when you need to be. Seeing how other people and cultures live, seeing that the world carries on regardless of what you’re going through is somehow freeing.. The world can be a brutal and relentless place but becoming grateful for what and who you have are great ways to renew stale thinking.

Take an interest in others:  We all have our own viewpoints and belief systems but it’s invigorating to step out of your comfort zone and meet people you wouldn’t normally make friends with. Chat to people you normally wouldn’t, you’ll be astounded at some of the similarities you’ll find.

Nourish the BODY

Sadly, gone are the days when we prepared our lunches the night before, cook our meals fresh every night.

We need to change our mindsets on food, stop, think and  prepare our meals in advance. We need to rid our pantries of toxic ingredients, plan our shopping lists for the weekly meals ahead of time to keep temptation and fatigue from allowing us to make lazy decisions. Fuel your body and try the EAT MORE GOOD STUFF philosophy (organic vegetables, organic fruits, grain fed organic protein) instead of the cut out and deprive yourself mindset. Once you eat more of the good stuff,which is packed with filling nutrients there’s less room to fill up on sugars and empty carbohydrates.

Move – We all know exercise or just steady aerobic movement releases endorphins (the feel good hormone) we all need to stay positive and vital. I know I always need a hit of the happy hormone. Yes please, Sir. Ring somebody’s front door bell and RUN !

Yoga – Really has changed my life, stretching my organs, okay stretching my everything has been one of the better moves I’ve ever made.. My mind is more positive, my breathing is more controlled and guides you to calmness. I initially started for the physical benefits of yoga but it is an all-encompassing process. Embrace it today!

Play – Grab your best friend, children, other half or your granny and go make some fun ! Gallop down the road when you should be walking a la Miranda Hart, jump in a puddle or sing at the top of your voices in the rain. You’ll be amazed who actually smiles at you when you think you’d be scorned at. I’ve done them all and it’s so freeing. Who cares what ‘people’ think anyway, right !

Develop the SPIRIT

We all have to be connected to our source whomever or whatever that may be. We must plug ourselves into the power source constantly  to give US life and sustenance, a connection with Someone or something bigger than ourselves to live for and believe in. It’s human nature. It’s the way we are made.

We are created to be in union with Our Maker –  Disconnection from this unfortunately will always result in imbalance, depression, anxiety, addictions and seeking for answers where there are none.

Find your sustenance in spirituality, in those you can trust and rely on, read, pray, exercise, meditate and look for answers to all the questions you have in your mind. You have the right to seek and to ask !
